What Makes It Different

One Extra Foot of Height

The "high cube" designation means the container is one foot taller than a standard ISO shipping container, also known as a conex box. That takes the exterior from 8 ft 6 in to 9 ft 6 in, and the usable interior ceiling from 7 ft 10 in to 8 ft 10 in. Available in several grades, including used wind and water tight (WWT) and one-trip. See our condition guide for the differences.

That extra foot can help with overhead storage, lighting, and equipment, but finishes and insulation reduce the final headroom.

Use Cases

Ways to Use a High Cube in Illinois

A Rockford shop with tall but lightweight stock can use additional vertical room for organized storage. Check the load rating and stability of shelving separately from the container dimensions.

A proposed Chicago area workspace can benefit from planning ceiling services before selecting a shell. Insulation, wiring and finishes all reduce the usable room, and the conversion still needs a complete design.

A Peoria supplier storing bulky packaging can gain vertical space without adding another ground footprint. Keep a safe retrieval method in the plan instead of stacking beyond practical reach.

A Central Illinois farm can compare the actual height of stored equipment with the door opening. The outside height of the container does not tell you what clears its doors.

A Southern Illinois studio concept can start with a measured layout showing the workbench, openings and mechanical equipment. Select the container after the finished room and site access have been checked.

FAQ

High Cube Container Questions

The footprint is identical, and the high cube is one foot taller.
It changes the overhead, not the ground. The run is still 130 feet of straight, level approach, but the truck carries the box a foot higher. The site still needs at least 15 feet of height for the truck to drive in and 22 feet of height along the entire unloading path. Low limbs and service drops are worth identifying before delivery.
The high cube is quoted separately from the standard 40ft, so ask for its price for your address. For comparison, Wind and Water Tight standard 40ft units start at $2,258 delivered in Chicago. Container One sets prices, and they change without notice; your written quote gives the price for your order, including delivery to your address. Prices as of 2026-09-30.
Warranty runs by grade: one-trip units carry a 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty, cargo worthy and wind and water tight units carry a 5 year structural and 5 year no-leak warranty, and economy units carry a 1 year roof leak warranty.
